Maximizing The Capabilities of Propulsion Applications

By replacing titanium engine parts with composite materials, component weight can be reduced by up to 50%, resulting in an enhanced performance at higher temperatures. As a leading composite materials manufacturer for propulsion systems, our epoxy and prepreg resins, BMI, and polyamide resins provide improved property retention, mechanical and electrical insulation and lightweighting benefits for critical aircraft engine and nacelle components.

Friction & Wear Components and Sealing

Our composite solutions and industry-leading polymers for nacelles and engines are designed to maximize propulsion system efficiency and consume less fuel over an engine’s lifespan. Additionally, our materials offer excellent damage tolerance and 350-500℉ service temperature capabilities, equipping aircraft OEMs with excellent maintenance, repair, and overhaul performance. Syensqo’s portfolio of advanced composites and high-performance thermoplastic films are utilized to enhance vital applications, engines, nacelles, and more, such as CFM’s International LEAP engine, which is used on Airbus, Boeing, and Comac single-aisle aircraft.

Fan Blades

Fan blade manufacturers benefit from strong, durable materials that fortify blade structures while remaining lightweight. Our key products for fan blade applications and manufacturing processes include CYCOM® PR520N curing epoxy resin systems for RTM processing, CYCOM® EP2190 slit tape for prepreg processing as well as Aeropaste® 1100 and FM® 319 adhesives for leading-edge bonding.

Fan Cases

Fan cases are crucial components as they maintain the engine's integrity, and manufacturers depend on material solutions that grant damage tolerance and superior design freedom. Our key solutions for aircraft engine fan cases include CYCOM® PR520N and CYCOM 5250-4 curing epoxy resin systems for RTM processing and CYCOM® EP2190 slit tape for prepreg processing. These thermoplastic tapes, prepreg resins and other materials, along with Halar® ECTFE for superior resistance qualities, are formulated to meet and exceed the most stringent mechanical strength requirements and industry standards.

Acoustic Panels and Trench Fillers

Fundamental structural components, including acoustic panels and trench fillers, help ensure lower noise during engine operation and more comfortable commercial and professional use. We supply MTM® 49L epoxy prepreg and FM® 410-1 modified epoxy adhesives for enhanced impact resistance, smoother processing and improved core splicing. Syensqo’s high-performance Halar® ECTFE, particularly its derived Ajedium® Film,  is used as a protective layer on the engine acoustic ring panel against the aggressive environment typical of aircraft engine entrances.

OGVs

Engines in ocean-going vessels (OGVs) are responsible for successful port operations and safety. Manufacturers rely on our top-of-the-line epoxy systems and adhesive foams for structural integrity, including CYCOM® PR520N RTM resin for composite design and Aeropaste® 1100 adhesives for metal design components.

VBV ducts

Are responsible for critical operations in engine control, such as reducing foreign object ingestion and maintaining compressor pressure within a good region. CYCOM® PR520N and CYCOM 5250-4 RTM resin can ensure an easier molding process for maximum toughness and processability.

Platforms, Shims, Spacers, and Small Complex Components

As key components within engines, small complex parts contribute towards structural stability and require cost-effective ease of processing. Our high-performance propulsion component materials optimize manufacturing processes for a wide range of aircraft platforms, shims, spacers, and other small complex parts. Key product offerings for these complex components and applications include CYCOM® PR520N for RTM processing, CYCOM® EP2750 for press-cured prepregs and qualified thermoplastic composites designed for aerospace applications.

Nose Cones

As an essential aircraft application, nose cones maximize an aircraft’s efficiency, safety and speed by modulating oncoming airflow. Syensqo’s dynamic technologies—such as CYCOM® PR520N, CYCOM® 890, and PRISM® EP2400 for RTM processing and other high-performance adhesives and primers—offer a vast range of materials for aircraft nose cones that meet even the most challenging performance standards and requirements.

Air Inlet

Engines draw air from air inlets, and they are essential for end-user safety in any given aircraft. For optimizing structural performance, heat deflection and chemical resistance, manufacturers rely on composites for inlet cowls such as CYCOM® EP2190 and CYCOM® 977-2.

Fan Cowl

To safeguard the engine and the surface of the fan, fan cowls provide protection for engine-mounted components. Fan cowls can perform well aerodynamically thanks to the power of thermoplastic composites such as CYCOM® EP2190 and CYCOM® 977-2.

Thrust Reverser - IFS and Translating Cowl

Crucial to decreasing the speed of an aircraft during landing, commercial airlines and aircraft depend on thrust reversers for safe operations and reducing brake and wheel maintenance. Thrust reverser composites and other materials for IFS and their translating cowls require strong capabilities able to withstand high speeds, which is why CYCOM® EP2190 and CYCOM 977-2 are ideal materials of choice.

Thrust reversers made from high-performance materials lower maintenance costs and ensure safe operation. Because thrust reversers in business jet nacelles perform under high-temperature conditions, they must be cured with resins like CYCOM 5250-4 and adhesives MB® 2550 for structural integrity, heat resistance and flame retardancy.

Fan Cowl Doors

Fan cowls protect aircraft cooling fan cases, so their doors must remain completely functional for maintenance and safety. For fan cowl doors that must perform at their best, manufacturers trust Syensqo resins and adhesives, including CYCOM 5250-4 and MB® 2550

Friction & Wear Components and Sealing

Syensqo’s high-performance polymers for engines deliver industry-defining characteristics in the most challenging conditions. Quality and consistency in the industry with quality and consistency with Torlon® PAI, KetaSpire® PEEK and AvaSpire® PAEK. Tecnoflon® Fluoroelastomers (FKM) and Perfluorelastomers (FFKM) seals and o-rings are highly resilient in chemically aggressive environments at extreme temperatures.
