High-Performance SURF Applications for Harsh Conditions

As energy demands increase and operating environments become more challenging, operators and engineers turn to advanced solutions to optimize subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) applications. The right materials can produce reliable and high-performing deepwater subsea solutions with the ideal balance of thermal, chemical and mechanical properties.

Flexible Risers and Flowlines

These critical components are often designed in complex pipe structures and must provide safe and reliable performance in environments where temperatures can reach 180°C and internal pressures up to and above 1,000 bar. Polymers like Solef® PVDF and KetaSpire® PEEK contribute to barriers and sheathing solutions that comply with regulatory requirements and deliver outstanding thermal and chemical resistance. Additionally, our Evolite® thermoplastic composite tape, which is engineered for high-temperature, high-pressure pipes, delivers superior chemical and mechanical resistance for reliable performance over a wide temperature range.

Umbilicals

Subsea umbilical hoses are expected to resist compounds like methanol and ethanol while maintaining very low permeability to injection fluids. Materials like Solef® PVDF provide the pressure and temperature resistance necessary for producing high-performing and reliable umbilicals.
