Syensqo's Specialty Polymers and Thermoplastic Composites for SURF Applications

Materials suitable for SURF components must deliver high-temperature performance, chemical resistance, toughness, electrical insulation, chemical permeation resistance, flexibility at low temperatures and long-term reliability. Syensqo's high-performance specialty polymers for SURF applications meet these complex performance requirements and have been used extensively in the energy industry for decades, now alongside our thermoplastic composites offer.

  • Solef® PVDF - This fluoropolymer has been used effectively in SURF applications since the 1990s. Solef® PVDF provides excellent chemical resistance, good mechanical performance, low permeability to most gases and liquids, high abrasion resistance and can be used continuously in temperatures up to 150°C. Specifically, Solef® PVDF can be used in pressure sheath solutions, anti-wear tapes and umbilicals.
  • KetaSpire® PEEK - KetaSpire® PEEK is an easy-to-mold, semi-crystalline polymer that delivers excellent thermal stability up to 240°C, plus best-in-class fatigue resistance and outstanding chemical resistance. This high-performing solution can be utilized in anti-wear tapes for flexible risers and in umbilicals.
  • AvaSpire® PAEK - With high toughness and chemical resistance plus impressive mechanical and thermal performance, AvaSpire® PAEK bridges the gap between cost and performance. This family of high-performance polyketones is well-suited for anti-wear tapes in flexible risers and umbilical components.
  • Evolite® - The Evolite® range of thermoplastic composites supports demanding SURF applications and was originally introduced for flexible risers and flowlines. Evolite® is designed to prevent corrosion of subsea equipment and reduce total cost of ownership. Inherently recyclable, Evolite® offers excellent chemical and mechanical properties, and continuous use up to 130°C.
