What is carbon fiber?

Carbon Fiber Filaments

Carbon fiber is an organic material produced from PAN (polyacrylonitrile) or pitch (a viscoelastic polymer). Carbon fiber filaments are characterized by stiffness, strength, performance, cost, size, and shape. Several thousands of carbon fiber filaments are bundled together to form small tows (1-24 K filaments) and large tows (>24 K filaments).
