High alcohol-based formulations
Health associations recommend formulating with high alcohol content. Usually, this is >65% to get the right germ-kill efficiency. The presence of water in the gel also helps to spread the alcohol across the skin for better efficacy. This is the most widely used type of hydroalcoholic gel.
Recommended solution: Jaguar® HP-120 COS
Low alcohol-based formulations
It usually contains cationic antibacterial actives to boost the germ-kill effect, such as Benzalkonium Chloride (Fentacare® and Ercabac®). They are milder on hands, and very often used as baby/mild formulations, as well as for the treatment of surfaces (institutional care).

Formulating with Jaguar® HP-120 COS: high alcohol load hand sanitizers formulations
Jaguar® HP-120 COS is a conditioning thickener ideal for formulating alcohol-based hand sanitizer gels. It provides moisturizing benefits for soft and protected hands. Derived from guar, a natural and renewable raw material, Jaguar® HP 120 COS is compatible with high levels of alcohol (up to 90%) for high-performance antibacterial hand sanitizers. Jaguar® HP 120 COS enables formulators to create hydro-alcoholic gels with moisturizing benefits to leave hands clean, soft and protected.
The process could be adjusted based on your formula or equipment.

Formulating with Jaguar® HP-105: crystal clear hand sanitizer with low alcohol content
Jaguar® HP-105 is another grade of a guar derivative, non-ionic thickening agent that is effective at low concentrations for transparent formulations. It is compatible with cationic surfactants and enables the formulation of hydroalcoholic gels, offering a unique ‘fluid’ smooth feel. This product allows the formulation of transparent gel products that can be pumped and/or sprayed.
