Materials for Advanced Auto Electronics 

With growing consumer awareness, augmented focus on sustainability and increasingly stringent industry regulations, electronic components in internal combustion engines (ICEs) must be developed with more eco-friendly materials without sacrificing performance. Syensqo’s innovative portfolio of polymers for electrical applications in automotive meets the demand for more efficient processing and improved performance outputs. Our specialty materials are used in a variety of today’s most advanced auto electronics, including fuses, switches, solenoids, sensors, connectors, bobbins, and electrical actuators.

 

Fuses, Switches and Sensors

Materials for fuses and fuse housings, electrical switches and sensors in ICE systems require excellent toughness, chemical and corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, and high heat resistance. Amodel® PPA, Syensqo’s family of high-temperature polyamides, thrive in these applications, as they provide increased toughness that allows for thinner designs; excellent chemical resistance to ATF, oils and glycol; good dimensional stability; outstanding electrical property retention and strong mechanical properties even when exposed to extreme temperatures. 

 

Solenoids

Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves and solenoids are integral to ICEs, and they require high-quality materials to deliver increased efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. These applications must use materials with excellent chemical resistance, electrical properties, high heat resistance and stiffness. Syensqo’s Ryton® PPS and Amodel® PPA are optimal for solenoids and EGR valve components, as they provide outstanding acid resistance at elevated temperatures, exceptional dimensional stability, good dielectric properties and excellent strength. 

 

Connectors

Connectors and cables in ICE systems require unique design flexibility and exceptional electrical and chemical resistance. Syensqo’s Ryton® PPS and Amodel® PPA are ideal for use in electrical connectors used in vehicles due to their processing compatibility and their good combination of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and high-temperature performance properties. 

 

Bobbins

Bobbins are essential components for ICE ignition coils, and these applications must be made from materials that can withstand extended usage and exposure to high temperatures. Syensqo’s Amodel® PPA and Ryton® PPS are optimal for use in electrical bobbins components, as they demonstrate outstanding thermal performance in the harshest conditions, as well as good dielectrics and mechanical strength. 

 

Electrical Actuator

Electrical actuators are essential to the performance output and efficiency of ICE systems. These components require materials with extremely high heat resistance, excellent stiffness and good chemical resistance. Syensqo’s Ryton® PPS is particularly well-suited as a replacement for metal in electrical actuators, as it delivers excellent component consolidation for lightweighting, which improves efficiency and performance longevity.
