Best-In-Class Products for Advanced Commercial Drones

In a cutting-edge drone market, drone manufacturers must utilize high-quality, lightweight and resilient materials to meet performance and innovation expectations. OEMs of today’s most advanced small delivery drone components benefit from Syensqo’s ability to provide tailored solutions that meet specific strength, stiffness, weight, temperature, or chemical resistance requirements.

Our unique portfolio of products and technologies for commercial drone applications paired with the right processes help our customers meet increasingly complex combinations of safety, performance at extreme conditions, high rate manufacturing, and reliability demands. Moreover, Syensqo has developed products using bio-based raw materials and recycled content such as Kalix® HPPA, Amodel® BIOS PPA, and Ryton® PPS.

Syensqo’s materials can be processed through injection molding, a commonly used process to convert plastic granulates into parts by melting the material and injecting it under high pressures into a mold.

Key benefits:

  • Fast cycle times (<1 minute/part);
  • Multiple parts possible in 1 shot / 1 tool;
  • Combination of several materials in 1 part possible (by 2K- or overmolding);
  • Highly automated process: minimal labour cost when the process is well optimized & automated;
  • Generally no mechanical post processing needed;
  • Tight tolerances, smooth surfaces, wide design freedom;
  • Circularity enabled with recycling (from raw material scrap, rejected parts to end-of-life).

Beyond injection molding other processes are also available such as extrusion, overmolding and thermoforming.  Select thermoplastics and thermosets are available on continuous fibers where more structural reinforcement is required.

Key Brands

  • Ixef® PARA - A perfect combination of aesthetics and strength, Ixef® PARA is a renowned specialty polymer that is particularly well-suited for battery pack and insulation components found within drone batteries. Ixef® PARA is an extremely high-flow resin with very high rigidity and very low creep.
  • Omnix® HPPA - Omnix® HPPA is a family of high-performance polyamides that bridge the cost-performance gap between lower-performing PA66 and higher performing polyphthalamide, such as Amodel® PPA. Omnix® 4050, a 50% glass fiber reinforced compound, is especially interesting and is available in black and natural grades. The off-white color of the natural resin provides excellent colorability.
  • Kalix® HPPA - Kalix® HPPA products are highly glass-filled compounds that can replace metal in structural mobile electronic components where strength, rigidity and aesthetics are important such as housings, covers, chassis and frames. Different base resins are used to tailor performance and processing requirements. Processing improvements include lower warpage, reduced shrinkage, and low to no flash.Kalix® HPPA is a bio-sourced HPPA polymer.
  • Amodel® PPA - A high-temperature, partially bio-sourced polyamide designed for high temperature and chemically aggressive environments, Amodel® PPA is optimal for use in a variety of mission specific drone applications including structural parts, propellers, batteries and electronic components. This family of specialty polymers demonstrates exceptional mechanical integrity, versatility and thermal resistance, and can also be produced using 100% renewable energy.
  • Ryton® PPS - A semi-crystalline, high-heat polymer, Ryton® PPS is extremely well suited for commercial drone components such as structural parts, propellers, e-motors, batteries and electronic components. This polyphenylene sulfide exhibits outstanding dimensional stability, design flexibility and creep resistance. Available with recycled carbon fiber and can also be produced using 100% renewable energy.
  • KetaSpire® PEEK - A best-in-class PEEK, KetaSpire® PEEK offers excellent chemical resistance, good wear and abrasion resistance and superior dimensional stability, making it a choice material for several drone applications including drone structural parts, drone propellers and drone e-motors. This high-quality polyetheretherketone is optimal for metal replacement applications, and is also able to be produced using 100% renewable energy.
  • Xydar® LCP - A glass fiber or mineral-filled resin with excellent flow properties, Xydar® LCP exhibits exceptional chemical resistance and surface mount compatibility, which make it optimal for e-motors and electronic components in today’s most advanced small delivery drones. Xydar® LCP are liquid crystal polymers with a heat deflection temperature of 271℃, and can also be produced using 100% renewable energy.
  • XencorTM Long Fiber Thermoplastics - These long fiber thermoplastics target metal replacement applications in a variety of components, but are ideal for both structural parts and propellers found on today’s most advanced drones. XencorTM Long FIber Thermoplastics maintain mechanical performance in rigorous environments and high temperatures, and demonstrate very low creep under high permanent loading.
