Addressing Thermal Runaway
If overheated, lithium-ion batteries can go into thermal runaway. Safety in electric vehicles is key so guaranteeing the protection of the battery cells in the case of an external thermal event, avoiding thermal runaway, is paramount. The challenge is to find insulating solutions capable of withstanding the high temperatures created during a thermal event. Our advanced material solutions are engineered to achieve high levels of temperature resistance to effectively protect cell components and connectors avoiding thermal runaway and consequent short-circuiting.

Battery enclosures are an essential part of overall battery safety in electric vehicles. They must protect against fire, ensure mechanical safety and high-voltage shielding solution yet not add unnecessary overall weight to the vehicle. The Future Is Circular
Tomorrow’s demand for battery metals is unlikely to be met by primary mining alone, and traditional recycling fails to yield the high-grade metals required for EV batteries. Syensqo is part of a European consortium where our role is to purify and extract Lithium, Cobalt and Nickel from the black mass coming from batteries at the end of life. These metals will be reused for new batteries, closing the loop and bringing a true circular economy in the battery industry.
