Radel® PPSU

Applications

Design engineers specify Radel® PPSU to meet the demanding requirements of components where high impact strength, heat resistance, chemical resistance and long-term hydrolytic stability are major factors.

Healthcare

Healthcare-1 (2)

For over 30 years, Radel® PPSU has provided a strong, lightweight alternative to metal in sterilization cases and trays, implant trials, surgical instrument handles, and a host of other medical and dental devices. It can absorb tremendous impact without cracking or breaking, even after prolonged and repeated exposure to high temperatures, chemical disinfectants, hot water and steam.

Radel® PPSU is compliant with ISO 10993 biocompatibility testing and is suitable for limited exposure applications having less than 24 hours contact with bodily fluids and tissue. It is compatible with all commercial sterilization technologies, including steam sterilization, ETO, gamma radiation, and vaporized hydrogen peroxide. It can be steam sterilized over 1,000 cycles without significant loss of properties, making it an excellent candidate for reusable medical devices.

Radel® PPSU for Healthcare

Green Hydrogen

hydrogen vehicles

In the hydrogen fuel cell environment, the chemical, dimensional and thermal stability of component materials is critical to the efficiency, durability and long-term performance of the cell.  Radel® PPSU offers exceptional hydrolytic stability and superior toughness compared to other high-temperature engineering resins, plus high deflection temperatures and outstanding resistance to environmental stress cracking. Radel® PPSU is the ideal material for membrane electrode assembly subgaskets in proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, where it provides excellent thermal stability with good electrical properties.

Plumbing

Solvay-specialty-polymers-plumbing

Radel® PPSU and Acudel® modified PPSU are widely used to replace brass in pressurized hot water applications. They can be injection molded to tight tolerances and exhibit low creep under a sustained load at elevated temperatures. This combines with their excellent oxidation resistance to deliver durable, long-lasting performance for applications that require continuous exposure to hot chlorinated water.

Syensqo offers a broad portfolio of specialty polymers for plumbing and other water-handling systems. Our high-performance plastics offer distinct advantages over metal by eliminating corrosion and contamination by heavy metals and providing more sustainable material solutions.

Food Service

Radel® PPSU is biologically inert and BPA-free, making it and excellent candidate for food service applications needing to withstand prolonged exposure to hot water, steam, oil or grease. It has a UL-94 V0 flammability rating and operating temperatures close to 200°C (392°F). Typical applications include fittings for beverage preparation, hot water boilers, window sights, and hoods for fryers and rice cookers.

Syensqo offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of specialty polymers for food service applications. These materials are used in a variety of food contact applications, such as coffee machines, juicers, air fryers, rice cookers, kitchen utensils, foodservice and microwave trays, food processing applications and other kitchen appliances, to ensure mechanical and aesthetic performance.

Aircraft Interiors

Radel® R-7000 Series products are specially formulated for use in aircraft cabin interiors and are in compliance with stringent FAA regulations requiring low heat release, low smoke generation and low toxic gas emissions. They offer exceptional toughness and impact strength, superior resistance to cleaning agents and chemical disinfectants, and molded-in color to eliminate painting. Lower cost paintable grades and high flow grades for thin-walled components are available.

3D Printing Filaments

Radel® PPSU AM Filament offers the best of sulfone polymers, with superior ductility and impact resistance, high-temperature capabilities, and exceptional chemical resistance versus both PSU and PEI. Radel® PPSU AM-ready materials stand-alone in meeting the critical requirements that engineers and designers face daily in key industries such as Healthcare, Smart Devices, and Energy Storage applications. Radel® PPSU AM filament, combined with Syensqo's recommended processing conditions, creates an excellent inter-layer fusion enabling incomparable levels of translucency for 3D printed parts. This filament is available as industrial and healthcare grade for limited contact applications on syensqoamshop.com
