Polymist® and Algoflon® L micronized powders are a family of PTFE powders specially developed for use as additives in other materials. They are finely divided, low molecular weight PTFE powders used to enhance processing or end-use performance properties of host products and base resins. Even at low percentages the use of these micronized powders will impart some of the properties of PTFE to the host material.
The use of Polymist® and Algoflon® L PTFE micronized powders enhances performance of the host material:
- Wear, rub and scratch resistance
- Release properties
- Anti-stick properties
- Lubrication
- Anti-friction
- Syensqo Polymist® R grades and Algoflon® L R grades comply with the REACH Regulation EU 2019/1021 which became effective July 4, 2020
Processing
Polymist® and Algoflon® L PTFE micronized powders can enhance some properties of the host material (i.e., plastics, coatings, inks, elastomers and lubricants) even when added in small amounts. This is because these micronized powders can resist the effects of hostile processing conditions and because they reside in the host resin with their properties virtually unchanged.
Used at low levels, and Polymist® PTFE and Algoflon® L PTFE micronized powders provide:
- Internal lubrication
- Improved mold release
- Increased processing rates
In the case of plastics higher contents are requested when low friction, optimum PV value and resistance to wear are desired. Higher contents of these micronized powders are also needed when used as thickeners in lubricants (e.g., greases).
The processing conditions for PTFE filled compounds are identical to those of the host material (e.g., plastics, elastomers, etc.)
