The Ultimate in Coating Performance and Durability
The combination of carbon-fluorine bonds with carbon-hydrogen atoms gives PVDF an extremely stable structure. Hylar® 5000S PVDF is inherently inert and withstands long-term UV and gamma radiation resulting in excellent color and gloss retention without chalking.
PVDF also resists acids, alkalis, and oils. These coatings ensure a long-lasting, rich, colorful, durable finish and gloss with relatively no visible signs of ageing despite years of relentless sun, temperature extremes, and harsh environmental conditions. Hylar® PVDF is transparent to UV light, making it completely resistant to degradation by UV light.
Coil or Spray Application
It is possible to prepare premium architectural coatings using Hylar® 5000S PVDF powder as a base and adding an acrylic resin plus appropriate inorganic pigments,.
A liquid coating is formed by dispersing Hylar® 5000S PVDF powder under very high shear into a blend of acrylic and latent solvents. This dispersion is unaffected by ambient temperatures, but when heated the powder particles dissolve and coalesce. By manipulating the solvent balance, a stable dispersion is produced that can be handled and applied much like standard liquid coatings, and then heat-cured into adherent integral films.
Hylar® 5000S PVDF-based coatings may be either coil or spray applied.
Top-tier Performance over the Competition
The inherent long-life characteristics of 70% Hylar® 5000S PVDF coatings outperform silicone-modified performance polyester, polyester, acrylics, plastisols, thick film urethanes, anodized metal, and FEVE coatings.
Hylar® 5000S coatings, blended at the optimal ratio of 70%-30% PVDF to acrylic, maintain their colorfastness and gloss longer than all other architectural coatings. The performance of both Hylar® 5000S-based coatings surpasses AAMA 2605 requirements.
