Depressants for Froth Flotation
Depressants facilitate the separation of sulfide ores either by depressing gangue minerals and floating the desired mineral, or by holding down the desired mineral while floating the undesirable gangue. The ability to depress specific elements is especially important when working with today’s ore bodies, which tend to be more complex and higher in impurity content. Depressants in froth flotation, therefore, play a vital role in maximizing yields without sacrificing concentrate grades.
Informed by a deep understanding of the role these chemicals play in the flotation process, Syensqo's experts have developed a unique line of efficient and versatile sulfide depressants. Our depressant technologies are suitable for a wide range of mining applications and are effective at lower doses when compared to alternative chemistries such as NaHS and Nokes reagents.
State-of-the-Art Flotation Depressants
Syensqo's depressants are employed in diverse applications. For instance, they are used in copper-molybdenum separations, where they assist in the depression of copper and iron sulfides. Another use is in the flotation of simple metal sulfides and complex polymetallic-bearing ores, where they depress iron sulfides such as pyrite and marcasite. Syensqo's reagents are also used for the depression of magnesium silicates such as talc, pyrophyllite, serpentines, olivines and pyroxenes.
- AERO® - flotation depressants consistently contribute to higher quality yields, even when applied in the most challenging operating conditions. The efficacy of these reagents at low dosages and their applicability to a diverse range of separations are defining and differentiating characteristics of these products.
