We are looking for:

  • The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for general maintenance repair, proactive maintenance and capital project installations, preventative maintenance and mechanical integrity functions at the facility.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic must work independently or in partnership with other staff members or contractors on general mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and utility operation tasks. His/her responsibilities include, monitoring and maintaining the operation of the equipment and systems through repair, preventive and predictive activities including gathering and recording related data and anything else associated with providing reliable equipment and facilities for the manufacture of product.
  • This also includes daily and weekly housekeeping chores such as picking up, washing, wiping, sweeping and shoveling.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic must be physically able to perform work such as moving pipe and other equipment, dismantling, rigging, lifting, etc., up to 50 pounds, and other tasks typical of a maintenance mechanic. He/she must have the mental dexterity necessary to accomplish a multitude of tasks safely and effectively.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic must be able to recognize unusual conditions, reason out the cause and use good judgment in being able to deal with them safely.
  • Important actions or observations must be accurately and legibly written on forms or in computer software.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic uses several different forms of communication equipment such as computers, telephones, radios and cell phones to pass and receive information.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic must be able to learn new skills and to use all their skills with a minimum of supervision and mistakes. Mistakes can result in serious losses or injury to themselves and others or damage to the facilities and equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for equipment (and the subsequent manufacture of product) and facilities valued in the millions of dollars.
  • Thus, reliable and conscientious people are required for the Maintenance Mechanic position. As the plant operates on a 24 hour basis, attendance and availability for overtime and callout work is essential. Absenteeism and tardiness will not be tolerated.

We count on you for:

  • Weld/fabricate carbon steel as well as 304SS, 316SS using standard welding techniques
  • Perform related metal working tasks such as thermal cutting, plasma cutting, and grinding
  • Position and clamp components of fabricated metal products in preparation for welding
  • Assemble and install a variety of pipe, tube, and equipment; may use big and small cranes, chain fall, or come-a-long to position work
  • Assemble pipe using welded, threaded, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints
  • Secure pipe to structure using brackets, clamps and hangers
  • Cut pipe and steel using saw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch or pipe cutting / threading machine
  • Bend and install instrumentation stainless steel tubing
  • Test fabricated and installed equipment to ensure adequacy of repair and safe operation upon commissioning
  • Operate fork lift to transport work or maneuver equipment as necessary
  • Operate man lift or ladder to safety position self at a height to complete a task
  • Perform maintenance activities on rotating equipment, for example pumps, agitators and gearboxes
  • Perform maintenance activities pertaining to general facility maintenance, for example maintain lawn and snow removal equipment
  • Coordinate repairs with production to ensure work site has been prepared to avoid interfering with activities of other workers
  • Verify proper life critical documentation and permits are prepared prior to the start of work
  • Inspect work site to determine best possible placement and routing of equipment and pipelines to allow long-term maintainability
  • Analyze problems to determine materials needed to complete task and transports materials to job site
  • Remove product from dismantled equipment by washing surfaces prior to transport
  • Perform housekeeping within areas of responsibility, both in the field and in the shop
  • Knows, fully understands the purpose of operational practices, health & safety regulations, OSHA requirements, and ISO9001 quality procedures, and works accordingly
  • Prepare parts lists and basic installation drawings when requested for jobs
  • Perform other duties or projects as specified by supervisor or manager

You will bring:

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Higher Education in a technical trade is desired
  • Education and certification in welding is desired
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a maintenance field, preferably chemical processing is required
  • Prior experience in pipe fitting, threading, welding is required
  • Prior experience is rotating equipment (i.e pumps & agitators) repair is desired

Must haves:

  • Must be able to read and understand safety rules, company policies and procedure manuals
  • Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form
  • Must be able to read and interpret a variety of diagrams, blueprints and operational manuals of shop tools and equipment
  • Must be able to solve practical problems using rational logic and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Must be able to perform basic math using application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions with algebra and geometric constructions, for example calculating surfaces, volumes, weights, and measures
  • Must be able to document activities such as work completed or inspection observations on forms or work orders using legible handwriting and understandable verbiage
  • Must be able to utilize the computer to process work orders, check email, and complete computer based training modules
  • Must be able to perform basic welding and fabrication functions
  • Must be able to operate or learn to operate all equipment regarding pipe cutting and threading, basic pipe fitting skills are essential
  • Must be able to perform or learn to perform all essential maintenance functions regarding rotating equipment such as pumps, agitators and gearboxes
  • Must be able to perform basic facilities maintenance functions for example, maintain lawn equipment, maintain snow removal equipment, and perform basic plumbing

You will get:

  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $36.00-$38.00 an hour.
  • Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range.
  • Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
  • 16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations.

Additional Information:

  • Must be punctual and meet attendance requirements
